The Secret Sauce to Success | Ep 31

In this episode, I’m sharing the GAS Method—the secret to building long-lasting relationships, creating opportunities, and feeling deeply fulfilled. GAS stands for Giving A Shit—caring about others with no expectation of return.

I break down how this approach helped me and my brother support homeowners during the 2008 financial crisis, how it built what I call relationship capital, and why generosity and reciprocity are the ultimate business (and life) strategies.

Plus, I’ll walk you through how you can use the GAS Method to snap out of funks, strengthen connections, and make yourself truly magnetic. This isn’t just about business—it’s about being a good human and thriving because of it. Let’s dive in!

If you are not in service to others, your success or your career itself will be very short lived. Any money you make will be short lived. But if you're in service to others genuinely, you'll always have a job. You'll always have a role.

What's up guys? Welcome back to another episode of the LFG Energy Podcast.

And I'm really excited about today's episode because this is the secret sauce that has kept me in business for all these years.

But it has also helped me create long lasting friendships which have turned out to be for a lifetime, open more doors for me and create something that I call relationship capital. Now, a lot of what I'm going to share with you guys today is ultimately coming back to just being a good human being, someone who actually cares.

And the method is called the GAS method. And what I use, I'll break down that acronym for you here shortly in the episode.

Now, my promise to you after hearing this episode and applying the GAS method and starting to create your own relationship capital is this, if you apply what you learn here today, it will lead you to more opportunities, create longer lasting and deeper relationships, and ultimately make you feel so fulfilled that no matter how much money you may or may not make out of it all, you're going to feel like a massive success.

Because at the end of the day, guys, as the Tony Robbins quote goes, true fulfillment comes from serving others and giving love without any expectation of recognition. It's basically doing the things in private or in the dark that end up shining in the light.

with you guys that is back in:

if you know what happened in:

And everyone who was in mortgage and real estate was part of the huge, huge letdown. And it was pretty catastrophic because every industry felt it.

It was a massive, widespread economic depression and emotionally was just that, it was depressing.

So when working in mortgage, a lot of our clients were losing their homes because they had lost their jobs and they had no means to pay their mortgage.

So eventually they were losing it to foreclosure or a lot of predatory people that were coming in and just basically trying to take over people's rights to their homes by getting them to sign over a deed. It was a Pretty dark time.

Now, while there was much blame to go around, we felt in our business that we carried some level of responsibility because we always tried to help people make good financial decisions when it came to taking out mortgage debt. And in some of these cases with the products they had, they didn't ultimately turn out to be good decisions.

In fact, they were bad decisions and they also didn't have any means of being able to repair that decision.

So since I actually spoke the language of dealing with a bank and I knew what mortgage and lending talk was, I thought to myself, let me help all of these homeowners contact the bank on their behalf, because I can be unemotional about it and just get right to the point and be purely objective to try and come up with a solution, modify the mortgage, find some way to keep them in their home. And if I did this for enough people, I would feel like I'm doing my part to help an already bad crisis stop from getting worse.

So I would reach out to clients and call myself a loss mitigation specialist and say that I would act on their behalf and got them to sign an authorization so that I could talk to the bank for them. And I worked out a situation where close to 200 people were able to stay in their homes. My brother and I did this for people.

Now we charged a little bit of money, but in many cases the clients had no money. So we ultimately did many of these cases for free. But we didn't care because at that time it was all about giving a shit.

And that's exactly what GAS stands for. The GAS method is giving a shit. It's caring, it's going outside of yourself and thinking of others first, especially when they are in need.

But let me tell you guys something, what came in the wake of it, because we didn't make any money, it was a lot of effort and we should have actually been focused on trying to make money and keep up financially so that we didn't get swept up in this crisis ourselves. But again, we felt some sense of responsibility.

But let me ask you guys, who do you think those 200 plus people came back to when their credit was repaired and some time had passed and they finally got their feet back underneath them and wanted to actually do another type of transaction or move or refinance.

They came right back to us, of course, because we gave a shit, we cared during a time of crisis and ultimately forged a bond with them that wasn't anything that was self serving, but was just for them. We were in service to others.

And that's one of my favorite quotes, that if you are not in service to others, your success or your career itself will be very short lived. Any money you make will be short lived. But if you're in service to others genuinely, you'll always have a job, you'll always have a role.

And that lesson during that time really affirmed that for me. And that's what taught me again, that if I care about people enough and put their needs ahead of mine during a tough time, I'm doing the right thing.

I'm being a good human, which is what LFG energy is all about. It's about putting out the right thing into the universe and doing it ferociously.

And I ended up forging a lot of great friendships with so many of these clients that I'm still connected to this day 17 years later. So there's a formula for how to actually apply the GAS method. Now that you understand what it is, you might be asking, okay, well, how do I do that?

It sounds simpler than it is, and it really may not be that complicated, guys, but I have a formula for what ultimately gives me what I refer to as relationship capital. And I am really wealthy in relationship capital because relationship capital just comprises of two components.

When added together, it's generosity plus reciprocity. You put those two together and you have relationship capital.

So being generous and thinking outside of yourself and continuing to do it in a state of reciprocity where you're helping others and they're doing the same for you, you can create a pretty incredible community or aura around you. And I promise you that will lead you to more connections, more conversations, and ultimately business and money will take care of itself.

But you will do it the right way.

But in creating as much relationship capital as I have over the years, and I continue to do it because I swear by this philosophy, it's done two other things for me now. This can do the same for you.

It will make you very magnetic because people are drawn towards positive lights, people that are doing things or putting out good energy into this world. And we all know this, of course, but it just bears reminding.

But the other thing about this and how therapeutic it actually is is, is that this is exactly how I get out of a funk whenever I'm having a bad day or I've had some kind of a letdown, maybe I lost a client, I had a difficult conversation with somebody, a family member, and I may have gotten into a little bit of a tiff. I have a choice at that point and so do you. That the rest of your day. And your energy can be directed in one of two directions.

You can either continue heading down that negative and draining pathway and either spin into a point where you're getting angry and frustrated with everyone and everything else around you being so unproductive and ultimately going to bed quite angry, or what I did.

And it's a little bit of tough work, but once you can actually create this framework in your mind and automate it, you'll get out of funk really fast.

And that is, I turn the opposite direction, and I think about two or three people that are in a much more difficult or challenging space than I am in that moment.

Whatever anger or whatever frustrating situation I just encountered, I know that there's at least two or three good friends of mine that are dealing with something that that makes this look like peanuts. Maybe they're getting over the death of a loved one. Maybe they're going through a major financial crisis or personal crisis of some kind.

Maybe they lost their home in a fire, like so many people sadly have in Los Angeles as of late. There's always somebody who has something much worse that they're dealing with.

Now, some people don't like this whole perspective comparison because whatever you're dealing with is meant to be the hardest and worst thing in the world. And I get it. Those are your feelings, your emotions, your experience that you're going through in that time.

But I promise you again, if we get back to the tenet of what this whole talk is about, which is thinking outside of yourself or beyond yourself, and you take the time to actually think of others and give that person a call.

So I will actually make two or three calls or send text messages out to people to check in on them, because again, if I can be there and be supportive for them, I'm going to feel a little bit more fulfilled. It'll also distract me from my own situation. But look, it's positive energy.

And again, I could have taken that left turn towards Negative Town and spun out of control after this incident or whatever it is that happened.

But instead, choosing to think of others and try and be helpful to somebody else or at least a few people that day is going to make me feel a lot better. It's going to help those people out, most importantly, and ultimately it conserved and saved my energy in that space.

So I implore you to do the same thing. And I give this advice to everyone when they say, how do you get out of a funk? It's easy.

Think about somebody else's funk and help them get out of theirs. So that's my promise to you. And what I want for all of you who are listening to this episode is to become as wealthy as fuck in relationship capital.

Capital is something that you can actually draw from when you've built it up.

Because when you built up a lot of this cachet in relationships with people or companies and partnerships, and that time comes that you need to draw upon it, or you need a favor back in return, or you need people to come through for you, I guarantee you those people that you had the relationship capital with are going to be the first ones lined up to give it right back to you. And that's not only a great feeling, it'll create an aura of invincibility around you for everything that you set out to do.

But again, guys, like I said in using the Tony Robbins quote, this is what life is all about. Being in service to others and loving things and loving people without seeking or accepting any sort of acknowledgment for it.

But just doing the right thing is ultimately what the human spirit is all about. So create that relationship capital for yourself.

Do it so that ultimately you are leading a life that is following the GAS method or giving a and I promise you'll be in a much better spot. And this is something you can apply today. I hope you guys found this episode useful.

Again, this is one of my favorites and something that I apply all the time and what I swear by and I love helping other people learn and discover for themselves. And I will see you guys on the next show.
